If you're still holding onto the reprise of boho-chic, look no further than Milly's heavily printed spring/summer collection. Floor-sweeping kaftans in rainbow florals and neon paisley prints floated the runway with water striped mini dresses and myriad tribal-inspired accessories.
Pringle of Scotland's Clare Waight Keller seized inspiration for spring/summer 09 via swimming-pool paintings (hence the cool blue printed brushstrokes) by David Hockney; in search of "a bit of escapism". Wherever the escape, you'll go in light and easy pieces to keep you comfortably chic - one of my favorites: a silk blend gilet perfect for layering over tanks and tees.
Easy-chic style is an effortless accomplishment in the spring/summer collection from Adam. A few of my favorites were brightly coloured and uncomplicated: a silk double strap playsuit with a sporty-luxe edge, an embellished yet relaxed T-shirt and a vibrantly sleek strapless silk dress.
One of the most coveted spring/summer collections, Balmain's Christophe Decarnin delivered ultra-glam retro cool looks-think Michael Jackson in all his 80s glory-in true couturier style. Broad-shouldered leather military-inspired jackets, acid washed & destroyed skinny jeans and studded skirts are the newly modern rock-chic style.
Parisian chic at it's best is what you get from Sonia Rykiel's SS 09 collection. The colour-rich looks sauntered down the runway mixing playfully flirty pieces with sophisticated classic ones. A personal runway favorite is the brightly coloured wide stripped chiffon dress which plays a game of peek-a-boo with your skin. Oh, and don't forget to top off your spring looks with the oh so chic gem embellished beret for true Rive Gauche chic.
If the electrifying neons were no indication of Matthew Williamson's optimism for spring his candy-colored prints had to be. Aptly titled 'bright escape' everything from bikinis to jumpsuits had a psychedelic charge, and a couple of my personal favorites: a double chain sparkling necklace and allover sequin tank dress make for a bright escape indeed.
Donna Karan has provided us with warm earth tones for spring and summer in a collection full of loose body draping pieces that are as comfortable as they are sexy. Plunging necklines paired with slightly more structred jackets make for a provocative vacation wardrobe.
For the party-hopping girls who crave the after-hours life, you'll show up fashionably late-and dressed-in Zac Posen's paparazzi-flash ready leopard printed silk, sequined and draped jersey frocks that essentially speak: "I love the night life."
Kimono sleeves and obi belts were a ficture in almost every look that strutted down the Missoni spring runway, however, they came in second to the house's signature zig zag knits and other patterns inspired by Italian futurist art.
